Sometimes Bigger IS Better

December 22, 2011-Cities from Above is always searching for ways to improve our products and services. We have found that many customers really cannot afford a full gimbal system like the Cineflex or Ultra HD system, but they still want stabilized HD and Ultra HD video. With the growing popularity of the 4K Ultra HD resolution, we decided to upgrade our gyro package to include a Kenyon Labs, KS-12 "Chief" Gyro. This gyro has 4 times the power of a KS-8 and will give us the power to stabilize high resoution cameras like the RED Epic, even on days when the winds are causing the helicopter to bump around. The mount can now handle cameras exceeding 40 pounds. Using other popular cameras including our Canon 5D MKii, we have superior stabilization for giving customers true HD quality without ruining your video with post-production methods. With our video you can pull the memory card from your camera and place the video directly on your timeline without the need for post production stabilization. Our LSG-2 mount can be included in our Helicopter rental if you wish to shoot your own video. Give us a call to discuss how we can hep you give your clients the very best aerial video.

The smell of Jet Fuel gets us excited

November 4, 2011-Cities from Above now has our own helicopter. For many years we have been at the mercy of helicopter operators around the country. We have traveled to many areas and found rates to vary many hundreds of dollars and even found that our local helicopter rates can vary by a few hundred dollars per hour during the height of tourism in the summer months. We finally decided to purchase our own helicopter so that we can provide the very best service and flexibility for our aerial video customers. If you need airlift for your next aerial video project, look no further. We now have a Hughes 500 turbine helicopter equipped with a nose-mount and our own in-house stabilized side-mount system. The Hughes 500 is well know for for its smooth, stabile ride, but also its excellent safety record. The four-blade rotor system provides a very steady platform for aerial video, even in windy conditions. The Hughes 500 is also a very fast helicopter which saves you money getting to and from the shoot location. We have room onboard for a Director of Photography, Camera Operator, and all the recording and monitoring equipment you may need. We also have a full transport system for trailering the helicopter to locations around the country, giving you an on-site dedicated aerial vehicle complete with re-fueling capability. Give us a call to discuss our hourly rates for aerial video projects.

Cities From Above will now help the clean-up efforts by offering our stabilized aerial video services that include geo-referenced, geocode, and mapping compliant video across the Gulf Coast of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. Our portable system can be placed inside any airframe or boat to provide stabilized high definition video used in in every aspect of the oil spill clean up efforts. Our system is an inexpensive option to dedicated camera platform and we offer the same quality of stabilization across many aircraft variations. This gives you the advantage of shooting aerial video from a helicopter in the morning and shooting in an airplane during the afternoon. Our stabilized aerial video system requires no special license or modification to the aircraft and can be quickly installed. This airborne video system is treated as cargo and only needs to be strapped down using ordinary cargo straps. The system is small and light, making it easy to mount in small airplanes and helicopters with a small footprint in the aircraft cabin area. Once in place, the system captures stabile, high definition aerial video that can be used in a variety of ways including low altitude survey, surveillance, legal dispute data, environmental research, and more. We can also use our specialized hardware to geocode all video and photographs making them easy to file, categorize, and show the exact location.
